I know I should have better things to do a 3:00am on Easter morning, but I decided to put my insomnia to good work. I created a little utility that will look for every matching .flame file and .jpg file in the current folder and imbed the .flame parameters into the .jpg comments as an archival backup. FLAM3 will do this as well, but FLAM3 doesn't handle any of the flames that require plugins. The new (and truly wonderful) Apophysis-J java port of Apophysis (membres.lycos.fr/jfbouzereau/a…) also does it, but requres the image to be re-rendered. This little utility (only 197k) for Windows is for all of us that already have hundreds or thousands of images that we want to archive.
The program is available for download at (www.palmpage.com/apop/ImbedPar…). It is a front-end for the free mogrify.exe program that is available as part of the ImageMagick freeware download. You can download it at (www.imagemagick.org/download/b…) and install it in its default location. Once it is installed, all you have to do is put your flame files and jpg files in the same folder as the ImbedParams program and run it. As it imbeds each flame file into it's matching JPG of the same name, it renames the flame file with a new extension of .flm. This is so you can tell, at the end of the process, which ones have been processed and which ones have not.
Should you ever need to re-create your flame file from the parameters imbedded in the JPG comments, there is another free utility (seeing a trend here?) called Jhead that will do that for you. You can dowload it at (www.sentex.net/~mwandel/jhead/…). From the command line, you would execute "jhead -q -cs image.flame image.jpg" and your flame will be re-created for you. Sweet!
Happy Easter, everyone! Now I can sleep while I let my program imbed over 5,200 JPGs for me!

DOH!
Just had one of those OH CRAP! moments. I intended to delete all the files in my folder with "par" as part of the name. Worked great...except it also deleted my PARAMETER folder with all my M3D thumbnails and parameters! Luckily, everything through yesterday was backed up, and I've posted the 15 or 18 missing parameters on Google Plus. So I can get them back, but it sure would be nice to have batch M3P -> TXT and batch TXT -> M3P capability. So happy that I've been sharing all my parameters on G+ though. Not only does it allow others to play with them, but really saves my bacon when I do something uber dumb! LOL
Like a bad rash than won't go away, I'm BAAAACK!
It's been a crazy year and I haven't been around for a while. Moved into a new place and got it all set up, got both of my kids through high school, and stayed real busy as the head moderator over on Theologica (theologica.ning.com). Haven't done fractals in a long, long time. Then, last Sunday, an online friend posted something from Mandelbulb 3D. Blew me away and I had to check it out. And in the last five nights, I've been up past 5am on four of them - partly because of insomnia and partly because I was so lost in M3D that I couldn't find my way back home. :) I've been busy though. I only post a small bit of my work here on DA. For
My ordeal may be coming to an end
If you have followed my journal for the last three years, you know about my fight with an insurance company that used my computer's ability to render fractals as some justification that I was not disabled. They have now agreed, however, to arbitration in the case. It is scheduled for next Tuesday. It is going to be an all day ordeal and I will be spending it between my wheelchair and a reclining camp chair that I am going to have to bring myself.
My ordeal with my insurance company may go away next week....but so may all information I have posted about what they have put me through. If you want to see/archive it before it is possibly gone
An Easy Explanation of Fractals
Just posted a short web page explaining fractals for all those that have asked me the question over the years. You can read it at this (http://bit.ly/FractalTutorial). I tried to use non-technical language as if I were going to be teaching this to home-school kids or something. If you haven't seen the videos I link to there though, you should really check them out.
