Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me.

Sadly I will be alone for this one. Matt had to do a concert he didn't want to do, so I will be live tweeting (humonlazydiva) my impression of the whole shebang.

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

Drinking: that's what I need....a good stiff drink! LOL

I just got good news. I just heard from HP. My laptop is now in Fed Ex's hands on its way back to me. I should have it back by 3pm tomorrow. Of course, depending on what they had to do to it, it may take until the end of the day before I get everything re-loaded on it. But HP's turnaround time from the time they received it was 11 hours. You can't complain about that. So, assuming that they fixed all that was wrong with it, I'll be back up and running by the end of the day tomorrow.

I had an HP desktop that lasted for almost 10 years before the power supply died. I'll still never buy a pre-built computer ever again but I do respect that it lasted for so damn long.

That's wonderful Daniel! I had a HP printer once and HP had Fex-Ex pick it up and turned it around - gave me a rebuild under warrenty - in 24 hours - and I'm in Alaska! I was floored! Glad you will have it back....we've missed you!

My Laptop is an HP. I have had it 5 years and it is still a damn good laptop.

I could do with clearing out some of these old computers I have repaired. They are all over the flippin' house...
They are supposed to be for a charity project, however some of the directors are not so keen now so I may be stuck with them here. Hope to get them into the garage. There are 4 in my kitchen, several in my computer room and goodness knows how many in the garage all ready.
They all are way out of date and have really small hard drives.
I am quite happy running my 3. I am just using my 3 year old one for emails and stuff. As they are all newworked it is really olike one big computer with loads of space. Just how I want it.

Hope your laptop is OK now. I guess it must be like losing an arm...

You were lucky, Daniel. My HP has been in twice - it came back the first time (after they'd had it a week) supposedly with a new motherboard and it worked for 20 minutes and died again. It's in for repairs again and they've had it over a week this time. I hope your laptop is sorted - I know how frustrating it can be!

That's really great, Daniel! I know about reloading everything, had to do the same recently with my Thinkpad when I got a stupid virus on the internet at work. That's when I bought my air card, so no more of that nonsense! Hope all goes well with it and you back up and going strong in no time!
